Introverted Yuki Amano is given a Future Diary, which predicts events up to 90 days in advance, and is forced to fight for his life in the Diary Game. Yukiteru Amano spends his days writing in a diary on his cell phone and daydreaming alone in his room. One day, he is visited by a god called Deus. They meet its leader, Tsubaki Kasugano, who tells them something shocking. Yomotsu Hirasaka attacks Yukiteru and crew. She finds out about Yuno, and the two strike up an immediate rapport.

Yukiteru with Yuno's aid is trying to find and kill Kamado 8 but has to confront his best friends in order to do so. Meanwhile, Aru finds out a secret about Yuno's origins and also - about his own. Uryuu Minene teams up with Yukiteru again to terminate John Bacchus, but under certain condition.

The plot depicts the Diary Game, a deadly battle royal between 12 different individuals who are given "Future Diaries", special diaries that can predict the future, by Deus Ex Machina , the God of Time and Space, with the last survivor becoming his heir. The anime is produced by Studio Asread, directed by Naoto Hosoda, the script is written by Katsuhiko Takayama, character designs are by Hidetsugu Hirayama and art direction is by Toshiyuki Tokuda. From episode 15, the second opening and ending theme songs are "Dead End" by Faylan and "Filament" by Yousei Teikoku, respectively.
