I understand that all of South Beach allows topless sunbathing. But I'm curious if there is a particular section of South Beach where it is more prominent? We are also looking for a good hotel that isn't very kid friendly. We're thinking the Surfcomber or Shore Club

Topless and Nude Beaches in Miami
My husband and I recently returned from a week on South Beach. We enjoyed it even more than we did last year. My husband had bought me a g-string swimsuit with nothing but a single string in the front same as the rear which was really exciting to wear. He wore a teardrop net g-string with quarter inch holes that enhanced his features, especially when he got somewhat full of himself, so to speak. We sunbathed, swam, and walked up and down the beach well beyond Lummus Park in both directions. Most people seemed to mind their own business. Any interaction, verbal or non-verbal, with strangers was positive The numbers of topless women varied from day to day and place to place.
You should also put back on your shirt before exiting the beach back onto public boardwalks or into restaurants and stores as most places have a zero-tolerance policy for nudity of any kind. You can always ask the hotel about their policy. Being nude in Florida is not technically legal, except in designated nude areas.
